Fight or flight?
A poem I wrote about the geopolitical conflicts that threaten to tear our world apart. We, the privileged ones, sleep in homes comfortable and warm. While halfway around the world, innocent children shiver under the rubble of a shattered dorm. Their lullabies are sirens, their dreams interrupted by fear, And the soothing voices we take for granted never once reach their ear. The rich remain untouched and often spark the flame, While the poor are forced to endure the chaos, trouble, and shame. It is an unfair world where the mighty rule the meek. And if we continue to live like this, our future as a species is surely bleak. Why must we quarrel over names, beliefs, borders, or land? Why tighten our fists in anger, rather than opening a helping hand? The weight we carry in division could be lightened in a day, If only we chose compassion and let envy fade away.
